Repairing leaks is one of those things that many people associate with plumbing. Mainly because plumbers in media are usually portrayed fixing pipes under a sink. We want to tell you what it’s truly like though. There are certainly instances where quick help in repairing a leak can really prevent major damages from occurring. Really that is one of the most important things that you as a homeowner have to take into account. Is the leak severe enough for you to give us a call? Are you going to need an emergency service? These are some of the questions that we want to answer below!
How Do I Know If A Leak Issue Is Severe & Warrants Giving You A Call?
There are two things that make a leak issue potentially extremely severe and would make giving us a call immediately a priority. Number one is if the leak is just out of control. It is getting your whole kitchen or your whole bathroom all wet. In these situations, the best course of action is to shut off the water flow at least to that particular area. Then giving us a call so that we can come in and have a closer look. The second issue is backflow. Even if the flow of dirty water is not extensive just having backflow is severe on its own!
Finding The Source Of The Problem
With most leak issues what we have is some sort of blocked drain or blocked water supply system that eventually caused the pipe to burst. Just fixing up the part of the pipe that burst may not entirely fix the problem! We need to find what is usually the part of the pipe that was blocked in the first place and caused the pipe to burst. Once we have that down then we are going to be able to think about repairing or replacing broken equipment.
How Do I Know If I Am Dealing With Backflow?
When there is a leak what freaks many people out is not that there is a leak in itself. Yet, they don’t really know if they have a clean water leak or a dirty water leak. Usually, the smell and the color are going to give away a dirty water leak pretty quickly. So, if you are seeing clear water flowing there is a chance that you have a clean water leak. Flooding issues can occur regardless. Granted, with dirty water floods there is a high risk of catching diseases!
Repair or Replace The Pipe
Depending on the type of leak we are going to be able to repair the pipe to make sure that no water continues to flow through. If you had a type of blockage that made the pipe explore then replacement is going to be the only option. Usually, replacements are not overly expensive. So, we tend to recommend them over trying to mend a broken pipe. At the end of the day though, we can do what you tell us to do!
